A filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. In just one appointment, the decayed or otherwise affected portion of the tooth will be removed and the remaining space will be cleaned and filled. A filling helps prevent further decay by closing off any cracks or spaces where bacteria can enter.
Our office uses either a composite filling (white, or tooth colored) or Amalgam (silver).
Our office uses either a composite filling (white, or tooth colored) or Amalgam (silver).
- Composite fillings are white colored and can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth. As with most dental restorations, white fillings are not permanent and may someday need replacement. However, they often last for many years and provide you with a fully restored smile.
- Amalgam, or silver fillings are a more inexpensive choice. Due to their dark color they are more noticeable than porcelain or composite restorations and are not recommended in certain situations. As with a composite filling, amalgam fillings are not permanent and may someday need replacement.
